Volunteer Voices: Spotlight on Devan Baker

Volunteer Voices,

Our AAOE Volunteer Voice for this issue is Devan Baker, Executive Director of Proliance Orthopedic Associates in Renton, Washington. He was recently recognized for his service on the Education Council.

Devan is committed to member learning and dedicated to strengthening orthopedic practice leadership through education. Devan values contributing to the same community that supported his professional growth. We appreciate all he does to advance education for AAOE and thank him for sharing his insights:

What made you decide to volunteer with AAOE and what words of encouragement do you have for others that may consider doing so?

"I was fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer early on in my AAOE membership. This enabled me to find connection with others in our field and I was able to build real relationships with them. It was great to have friendly faces to talk with when I attended the conferences. There are so many individuals who put in a lot of time and effort to help me grow in my own career and my volunteer service is a way to pay that forward. Serving on the Education Council has been such a value add. It provides caring, along with the goal to understand what members need and to then provide them with valuable educational opportunities for growth and learning.”

Which AAOE benefit or service do you use most and why?

The Collaborate community and annual conference are the two biggest. I don't participate as much as I should on Collaborate, but the topics are important, relevant, and keep me up to speed. This online forum allows me to reach out one on one when needed.  The annual conference is great! There is always something new to learn and I get to connect and network with amazing people. Hopefully, you plan to join us in Louisville, Kentucky April 20-22.

Why are you enthusiastic about the orthopedic practice profession?

Connecting with people and helping them have what they need to deliver outstanding care to every patient and in every interaction.

We extend gratitude to Devan for his efforts and volunteer service on the AAOE Education Council!
