Volunteer Voices: Spotlight on B.J. Maack

This issue of AAOE’s Volunteer Voices features B.J. Maack, Senior Director at Enovis in Wilmington, Delaware. B.J. was recently recognized for his impactful service on the Industry Relations Advisory Board. His volunteer journey evolved from obligation to genuine enthusiasm, driven by meaningful collaboration with fellow volunteers and AAOE staff. He values the opportunity to contribute behind the scenes and help shape the future of the orthopedic industry. We are grateful to B.J. for his support of AAOE, and for sharing his perspective.
What made you decide to volunteer with AAOE and what words of encouragement do you have for others that may consider doing so?
"I was originally involved from a “have-to” perspective, meaning I did it because it was part of the job, and AAOE was important to the job. But now, it’s truly a “get-to” meaning I am excited to get to be a part of AAOE and all of the “behind the scenes” activities. The other volunteers and AAOE staff really do make it worthwhile as we all collectively get to help drive the industry. Serving on the Industry Relations Advisory Board (IRAB) has been gratifying, worthwhile, and productive. My encouragement is to lean into what Martin Luther King, Jr. was getting at when he stated “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?”
Which AAOE benefit or service do you use most and why?
The in-person gathering at the AAOE Annual Conference. This is where relationships are made, strengthened and developed. I hope you plan to join us in Louisville, Kentucky April 20-22!
Why are you enthusiastic about the orthopedic practice profession?
I love seeing the constant adaptability of the profession, where administrators and leaders are constantly having to seek a new solution, or to reinvent themselves. This entrepreneurial and “can-do” attitude is so inspiring.
Thank you, B.J., for your volunteer service and dedication to advancing orthopedic practice!
