Delve into the often-overlooked systemic factors contributing to physician burnout, challenging the traditional focus on individual responsibility. My objective is to shift the healthcare executive's perspective, recognizing that a significant portion of burnout is driven by systemic issues within healthcare organizations and the wider healthcare environment.

This presentation introduces a 'triple lens' approach - incorporating humanities, justice, and systems - to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding and addressing burnout. I will explore various systemic factors, including health system's workload and administrative burdens, belief systems shaping medical culture, complex payer systems, and the impact of licensing and credentialing requirements.

I aim to inspire non-physician healthcare leaders to embrace their influential role in this paradigm shift, ultimately leading to a more sustainable, effective, and empathetic healthcare environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of the factors contributing to physician burnout by analyzing the 'triple lens' approach.
  • Identify key systemic contributors to physician burnout to critically evaluate their effects on physician well-being.
  • Empower non-physician healthcare leaders to recognize their influential role in addressing systemic issues contributing to physician burnout.
