Mentoring Program

One of the most valuable benefits of AAOE membership is connecting with a network of industry experts. The AAOE Mentoring Program makes it easy for practice administrators to connect with other executives. Whether you have a specific problem for which you need advice or simply want to connect with someone who can provide guidance as you get started in practice management, the AAOE Mentoring Program can help you achieve your professional goals.

Who can participate?

Any member of AAOE in good standing can participate as either a mentor or a mentee. You must, however, be willing to commit time to engage in the coaching relationship through phone conversations, email, and/or in-person meetings.

What are the requirements for becoming a mentor?

Mentors must:

  • Have the desire to coach as well as to learn.
  • Provide ongoing support, feedback, and advice to promote the mentee's professional growth and achievement.
  • Participate in a quarterly, 5-minute survey to evaluate your mentoring relationship.

What are the requirements for becoming a mentee?

Mentees must:

  • Be an individual who is new to orthopedic management or an experienced management individual looking to grow in your career.
  • Engage in feedback, new perspectives, and ideas to encourage growth of the coaching relationship.
  • Participate in a quarterly, 5-minute survey to evaluate your coaching relationship.

How are mentors and mentees matched?

Each mentor and mentee applicant will complete an online application. The applications are reviewed, and then matches are made based on the following factors: practice size and type, geographic location, goals, mentee interests, and the expertise areas of the mentor.

What is the time commitment?

Mentors and mentees together should establish expectations of their time commitment to the coaching relationship. Typically, participants invest around an hour per month, but this can vary greatly depending on what works best for the pair. Mentors and mentees are strongly encouraged to connect in-person during the AAOE Annual Conference.
