PM101: Understanding and Improving the Revenue Cycle


Revenue cycle management (RCM) is more than billing patients. RCM is the lifeblood of any practice — private or nonprofit.  Understanding the key factors that influence your cycle can shorten your days in AR, protect your practice, and accelerate the revenue cycle.  


Learning Objectives

  • Be able to identify the essential elements: management, organizational model, practice management system, standards and controls, coding, and compliance.
  • Know how to establish work flows essentials: structuring department work flows to maximize operational efficiencies and achieve performance measures - ensuring pt demographic, insurance, and coding information is entered accurately and timely.
  • Understanding and utilizing data: essential components of the daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reporting required to set benchmarks, identify pitfalls, and analyze the financial health of the practice.


About the Speaker

Olivia Wolf is Administrator for Alaska Hand Elbow Shoulder, a small group upper extremity practice in Anchorage, Alaska. Wolf began her practice management career in 2007 at an internal medicine practice and transitioned into orthopaedic management in 2013. She has been a Certified Professional Coder through the AAPC since 2004. Wolf serves as a member-at-large on the AAOE Elections Task Force and currently holds the position of Chair of both the AAOE Data Analytics Council & Benchmarking Committee.
