PM101: Payer Contracting


Speaker: Jana Foor, CMPESecretary, AAOE Board of Directors

At the completion of this session, you will have an understanding and guidelines to review and negotiate insurance contracts.  You will also understand the elements to successful payer contracting. 


After this session, you will:

  • Understand how to review current contracts including how to estimate their value to a payer.
  • Be able to differentiate between particular provisions a health plan might be willing to negotiate with you.
  • Know how to develop and design a specific office contracting protocol and how to develop effective tools and strategies needed to monitor your insurance contracts.
  • Be able to organize a contract review checklist for reviewing health plan contracts.


About the Speaker

Jana Foor is a seasoned orthopedic executive who has worked in healthcare for more than 25 years. She currently works as an administrator for AAOE's Board of Directors, and has been a member of AAOE for 12 years. Foor has been a member of the AAOE Board of Directors since 2015 and has served on the Education Council, the Membership Committee, the Legacy Committee, Board Liaison for the ALPS Committee, and Board Liason for the Specialized Education Committee. She has written content for the eNewsletter and presented at the 2016 Annual Conference. 

Foor worked as the Administrator for the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center in Red Bank, NJ where she demonstrated her effectiveness at identifying systemic and operational roadblocks to success and implemented strategies that affected change at multiple levels. Foor also served on MDAdvantage Insurance Company of New Jersey’s Practice Management Advisory Committee.

Foor is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton and holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Illinois. Foor has served as an operations leader, developing and implementing specialized treatment programming, and as a speaker and consultant on issues related to effective facility and community corrections programming strategy for increased community safety.
