PM101: IT & Infrastructure

EHR, EMR, PM, QPP, MIPS, HIPAA... There are so many IT and Infrastructure acronyms and terminology related to orthopedic practice management that it's almost like learning a new language. Co-presenters Barbara Sack and Brian Bewley help break these common terms now and teach you what you really need to know when starting out.

  • Define common IT and technology systems used by orthopedic practices
  • Understand the Quality Payment Program (QPP), Advanced Alternative Payment Models, and the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)
  • Understand the basics of HIPAA

 

About the Speakers

Brian Bewley is an entrepreneur, business leader and technology professional who brings over 30 years of experience and a diverse set of skills to Stratusi. He has served as a senior executive for several technology companies over the past two decades, running projects that range from mobile application development to electronic toy manufacturing. Brian has provided technical solutions to an impressive list of clients including JP Morgan Chase Bank, the Indiana Soybean Alliance, and the Indiana Department of Education. He has a deep understanding of the full range of business functions and uses that knowledge to help clients gain a competitive edge. Brian resides in Pittsboro, Indiana and enjoys time with his wife, 4 children, and 5 grandchildren of whom he will gladly show you pictures.

Barbara Sack is Executive Director for Midwest Orthopaedics, P.A., a practice over 50 years old in suburban Kansas City. She has been with the practice since January of 2004, having previously worked in geriatric primary care in a hospital-owned practice and an inter-disciplinary, multi-specialty academic medical center program. Barb has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration, both from the University of Kansas, and is a Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) certified with the American College of Medical Practice Executives. She has worked in the healthcare field for over 25 years. She has been a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) since 2005, and served as President in 2012 – 2013. In addition, she has also served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Kansas City Medical Manager’s Association and as President of Midwest AAOE.
