How long does it take to complete the AAOE Casting and Splinting Program?

The time of completion will vary among participants. It can depend on the level of experience and knowledge the participant has prior to starting the program, the length of time they can dedicate to completing the program, and how many casts and/or splints they are completing. The program is self-paced and on-demand to accommodate these different needs, and it does not expire.

The entire full body program consists of 28 videos with an average length of 8 minutes each and it takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to watch all of the videos. After each video is viewed the participant demonstrates the application of each cast and/or splint to their proctor and the time it takes to complete the demonstration is specific to each participant. On average the entire full body casting and splinting program takes about 1 – 2 months to complete.

Does the participant need to be a member of AAOE?

No, members and non-members can participate. Members can purchase the program for their staff to receive the discount.

Is prior casting and splinting knowledge required?

This program is intended for casting and splinting professionals for all levels, but it is helpful to be employed in a practice or have access to a qualified proctor.

Does each participant have to complete every cast and splint?

No. The participant will receive access to every cast and split in the purchased package, but is only required to complete the casts and splints that they would like listed on their certificate of completion.

How much of the Casting & Splinting Program is offline vs. online?

The majority of the program is online for the videos and testing, but there is a practical portion where students perform the required skills for their designated proctor within their practice. In order for the participant to receive a certificate of completion, the proctor must review and sign off on the Casting & Splinting Checklist that the participant was able to demonstrate the application and removal of the casts/splints.

What is a program proctor and who can be the proctor?

The participant or practice is responsible for finding and selecting their own proctor. Proctors typically work within the same practice, but this is not required. The proctor should be proficient in all casts and splints the student is tasked with learning.

The proctor will supervise the participant throughout the program and during the practical portion will verify that the student was able to successfully demonstrate the proper application and removal of each cast and splint. It is required that the proctor's name and the proctor form are submitted after purchase and prior to starting the videos and quizzes.

Is this a certification?/Can I get CE credit for it?

The Casting & Splinting Program is not a certification, nor are any CE credits associated with this program. This program was developed specifically for people at all levels of casting knowledge. It is intended to help practices standardize their casting and splinting training.
