Indianapolis, IN - The American Alliance of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) is able to claim a victory in Louisiana after legislation that would have made it illegal for professionals to call themselves certified based on professional certifications alone, was changed to remove the offending language. The bill in question, HB 748, would have prevented Louisianans who have received a voluntary certification from a private organization from using the term "certified" as a title. In other words, a medical executive holding the CMPE certification could not refer to themselves as a "certified medical practice executive" in the Bayou State.

AAOE joined other organizations, across a wide array of industries, to oppose this legislation and communicate our opposition to lawmakers. This massive lobbying effort ended in success with an amended bill in the Louisiana Senate. Changes to the bill have since removed the language concerning certifications from private entities.

AAOE's comments to the Senate committee of jurisdiction may be found here.
