Tell us why you became a member of AAOE.

I became a member of AAOE years ago in an effort to increase my orthopaedic management knowledge. I had worked in health care on the clinical side, and as I transitioned to the management side, AAOE was and is a great resource to continue to keep me informed and growing as a manager.

What is the best advice you've ever been given?

Change is hard--don't give up, just keep focused on your goals. This is especially true in health care with all of the changes that have occurred over the years.

What do you enjoy the most about your career and why?

The best part of my career is working with the physicians and staff to create a product/service that benefits the patients and community. In orthopaedics, you are able to see these results quickly since we typically make patients clinically better. They can resume activities that they were not able to do prior to our services. Also, I enjoy working with new managers. They are so interested to learn about the management side, and they bring new, fresh ideas and energy.

If you could pick any other career, what would you do?

I would pick a career working with animals--working at a rescue organization or maybe even working as a park ranger. I love the outdoors and nature.

What do you do when you're not at work?

Most of my time is spent with my children and wife. My kids are active in sports, so I am typically on a sideline on my weekends. If we are not at a sports event, I enjoy jogging, hiking, and riding my bike.

What words of wisdom do you have for new AAOE members?

Use AAOE as a resource. Ask questions and don't be afraid to utilize other AAOE members as resources. The networking side of AAOE is very powerful.
