Baltimore, MD - CMS plans to re-open sign-ups for two advanced APMs (A-APMs) for providers to qualify for the A-APM track of the recently finalized Quality Payment Program under MACRA.

CMS will allow new sign-ups for the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus Model and the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization Model, according to Politico. Both of these models are listed as qualifying for A-APM status under the finalized provisions implementing MACRA. New sign-ups will qualify for A-APM participation in 2018 meaning they would still be required to report to MIPS for 2017.

CMS released a proposed rule in August 2016 to make the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model (CJR) eligible for A-APM participation but has yet to finalize the proposed rule. Industry observers, including AAOE, are expecting CMS to release a revised Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Model in 2017 for 2018 reporting.

CMS has indicated that it will release a revised list of eligible APMs by January 1, 2017 and will update the list annually.
