AAOE's 2019 Annual Conference agenda is packed with a lineup of all-star industry experts presenting on the latest trends and innovation in orthopedic practice management. To help you get to know the conference's speakers a little better, we will be spotlighting them leading up to the conference.

AAOE's 2019 Annual Conference brings to you Shannon DeConda, CPC, CPMA, CEMC, CEMA, CMSCS, President & Partner of  NAMAS. EMRs were sold to physicians as a way to meet documentation guidelines and create efficiencies within their practice, but that is far from what we got! EMR documentation, in most cases, has created increased financial burdens on healthcare. We have seen a huge increase in carrier audits that focus on the lack of medical necessity in EMR documentation, which is a direct result of template-riddled EMR-created documentation. These increased reviews have created a greater need for in-house coding/auditing resources within physician organizations as they work to ensure correct coding based on documentation and fight the audits. Practice administrators, physicians, and compliance professionals must be aware of these risks and, more importantly, have the tools to identify concerns in their own documentation and improve deficiencies. You leave this session with a step-by-step plan for immediate implementation upon returning back to your practice.

DeConda recently shared some information to help you get to know more about her and her session!

AAOE: Why should attendees come to your session?
