AAOE's 2019 Annual Conference agenda is packed with a lineup of all-star industry experts presenting on the latest trends and innovation in orthopedic practice management. To help you get to know the conference's speakers a little better, we will be spotlighting them leading up to the conference.

AAOE's 2019 Annual Conference brings to you Mary White, MA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP from MTI Business Solutions. Sexual harassment has long been a critical compliance area for employers, and it is now a topic at the forefront of public opinion. In the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp, it is now more important than ever for organizational leaders to recognize, prevent, and respond to sexual harassment complaints and related situations in the workplace.

Attend White's informative session, "Recognizing and Preventing Sexual Harassment: What Managers Need to Know," and discover what you need to know about sexual harassment to reduce risk for your practice and maintain a culture free from this type of harassment.

White recently shared some information to help you get to know more about her and her session!

AAOE: Why should attendees come to your session?

White: Sexual harassment has long been a critical compliance area for employers, and it's certainly a topic that is in the forefront of public opinion at this time. As a matter of fact, 2018 marked a 12% increase in the number of EEO charges that include sexual harassment allegations (after a decade of consistent statistics). With that in mind, it is more important now than ever for practice managers and other supervisors to know how to recognize, prevent, and respond to sexual harassment complaints and situations that may occur in the workplace.

AAOE: What's a fun fact about you that attendees should know?

White: I have been in the shoes of an operations manager blindsided by a sexual harassment legal issue resulting from employee behaviors. I'm living proof that this can happen to any of us, and I hope I can help keep it from happening at your organization.

AAOE: What are key takeaways from your session?

White: Key topics covered include:

• What sexual harassment is and is not

• Who can commit and who can be a victim of sexual harassment

• Key factors that impact employer, manager, and employee liability and risk

• Common misperceptions and myths about workplace sexual harassment

• Practical tips for preventing sexual harassment in the workplace

• Recognizing and handling sexual harassment complaints

• Cultivating and maintaining a workplace where sexual harassment is not tolerated
