The AAOE 2018 Annual Conference was one for the books! More than 525 attendees gathered in Orlando for orthopaedic-specific education, networking, and industry shopping. Here's an overview of everything that happened at the conference!

Powerful Keynote Messages

Keynote speakers captivated audiences with their inspiring presentations and relevant messages.

Derreck Kayongo shared his account of his life as a Ugandan refugee and the path that led to his entrepreneurial venture with the Global Soap Project. Reflect on your own leadership in light of Kayongo's personal success factors: Service, Education, Leadership, and Faith (SELF).

Michael Abrashoff walked attendees through his impressive leadership feat, taking command of one of the worst-performing ships in the Navy and transforming it into the top ranked ship in just 12 months using the same crew. Abrashoff accomplished this by creating a culture of trust and empowering his crew to take charge--strategies all leaders can employ to create top performing teams.

Aaron Wolowiec brought the entire conference experience full circle with his Closing Keynote by arming attendees with the tools needed to implement important knowledge, strategies, and ideas gained during the conference.

Education Focused on You

The Annual Conference educational session schedule had something for everyone. More than 70 sessions were presented on topics such as value-based care, data analytics, patient experiences, human resources, leadership, and more. New this year, several Brain Breaks sessions offered a different type of educational experience focused on the individual.

Non-attendees still have the option to purchase recorded sessions. Purchase them for yourself and to share with staff. Access dozens of sessions, including handouts and other materials, for just $395 for AAOE members ($595 for non-members). Buy recorded sessions today!

Building Crucial Connections

Events like networking by practice size and region provided important opportunities for attendees to connect with peers who face issues similar to their own. You can build connections and stay in touch with peers throughout the year with Collaborate. Then join us at next year's conference to expand your network!

Attendees who visited the Exhibit Hall met industry representatives who offer a wealth of knowledge that can help with purchasing decisions this year. You can still view the list of 2018 exhibitors and reach out for answers to any questions you might have!

Data, Data, and More Data

Data was a major topic of conversation at this year's conference. Those who attended the free Pre-Conference Session, "Improving Quality of Care Through the Collection and Use of Satisfaction, Outcome, and Quality Data: Introducing the AAOE Data Warehouse," got a deep dive into the new Data Warehouse and how it can help your practice. AAOE Director, Data Solutions Vicki Sprague, PhD, was also available to connect one-on-one to get attendees' questions answered. Because of the tremendous interest, we've extended the deadline to sign up for the Data Warehouse at the discounted rate of $100 per provider for the first year of participation. The deadline is June 1, so don't delay! If you have questions, contact Vicki at or 317-749-0626.

Raising Money for Children With Life-Threatening Illnesses

Thank you to everyone who donated to Give Kids the World! With your help, we raised $36,241 for this amazing charity headquartered in Orlando and serving children from around the world. This is by far the most we have raised for an Annual Conference charity, and we were overjoyed by your generous support! Your donations are helping fulfill dream vacations for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Plan to join us next year at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center May 5-8, for the 2019 Annual Conference! We'll be celebrating 50 years. Here's how you can get involved now.
