Description:

Outsourcing marketing versus in-house marketing is an interesting debate. BoulderCentre for Orthopedics and Spine, PC. outsources the majority of their marketing and Missoula Bone & Joint Orthopedics employs a full time marketing specialist. Here are two contrasting examples of marketing strategies that work to help you decide what's right for your practice's specific needs.

Sami Spencer

Ms. Spencer is the Chief Executive Officer for Missoula Bone & Joint and the Missoula Bone & Joint Surgery Center in Missoula, Montana. Sami has over 20 years of orthopedic management experience and has had experience in other specialties as well as a healthcare consultant.

 

Ms. Spencer received her undergraduate degree in Business Management from Malone College in Canton, Ohio. She is a Certified Medical Practice Executive through the American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE) and a Certified Medical Manager (CMM) through the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management (PAHCOM). Sami is an active member of the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA). She is also the ACMPE Forum Rep and Board Member for Montana MGMA. Sami has been a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) since February 2000 and has served as a Board Member, the Annual Conference and Education Committees and currently is a Mentor through the ALPS program.

 

Ms. Spencer has two adult “boys” as well as two grandchildren which she finds great enjoyment. She enjoys spending time walking, biking, camping, and reading.

Catherine Higgins

Catherine Higgins joined BCOS in April 2016 when two orthopedic groups merged and moved into one location.  Prior to that she was the Executive Director of Boulder Valley IPA from 1999-2016 where the mission was to help independent practices remain independent.  Before BVIPA, Higgins was with VHA in the area of Physician Practice Consulting. She is a CPA and lives in Boulder, CO with her husband and has two grown children who live nearby in Denver.

Sally Brown

Sally Brown has been a practicing Occupational Therapist since 1991, and is Board Certified as a Hand Therapist.  In addition, Brown has a Master’s in Business Administration and serves as Marketing Director for BoulderCentre for Orthopedics and Spine. Brown has served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Hand Therapists and has won national recognition for most media coverage from the Spirit of Women Organization for previous marketing work.

 Julie McLennan

Julie McLennan joined Missoula Bone & Joint in 2005 and is currently their Marketing Specialist. She received her Associates degree as a Radiologic Technologist from Missoula College, and her BAS in Exercise & Sports Science from the University of South Australia.
