In this AAOE Member in the Spotlight feature, meet AAOE member Sam Santschi, JD, Diana L. Kruse, MD. Continue reading to learn more about this Board of Directors nominee!

What are you interested in serving on the AAOE Board of Directors?

I am passionate about the need for AAOE to grow in size and in breadth to influence CMS and government policy at the state and national level. I believe it is critical to the survival of this association.  I am excited by the opportunity to help solidify our brand through advocacy and increased educational content.  It has been an honor to serve as the chair of the Membership Council and in that capacity, I have had a front row seat to many of the discussions about our association’s past and future. I believe I am uniquely qualified therefore to serve on the board and to continue to move us forward to achieve our goals.

What would you like AAOE members to know about you?

I feel tremendous loyalty to AAOE because when I joined, I knew nothing about health care management let alone orthopaedics. I have been on the Membership Council for over five years and the chair for the past five. We have grown membership by close to 30% since then, and I believe the future of AAOE is tied to membership growth.

What is the best advice you've ever been given?

Work ethic and attitude predict success not ability.

What quote or song lyric provides inspiration to you?

"But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now..."

If you wrote a book, what would it be about and what would the title be?

Chracter driven historical fiction about Chicago's race relations. White's Flight

Tell us about your greatest accomplishment.

Personal: My daughters.

Professional: Passing the IL bar exam.

What do you enjoy the most about your career?

The opportunity to help people.

If you could pick any other career, what would you do?

Horse trainer.

What do you do when you're not at work?

Parent mostly. I love movies, reading, and talking horses with and "helping" my veterinarian sister at the track.

What words of wisdom do you have for new AAOE members?

Ask questions, reach out, and build a network of mentors.
