Washington, DC - President-Elect Donald Trump named Georgia Congressman Tom Price (R) to lead the Department of Health and Human Services. Price has served in Congress since 2004 representing Georgia's sixth congressional district to the north of Atlanta. While in Congress, Price served as Chairman of the House Budget Committee.
Prior to serving in Congress, Price was a member of the Georgia Senate and a member of the Emory University Medical School faculty. Price is a trained orthopaedic surgeon and worked in private practice before joining the Emory faculty.
Before taking his position at HHS, Price will have to be confirmed by a majority of the Senate. Senate Republicans, who hold the majority, have praised the pick while Senate Democrats have criticized Price for his views on abortion and contraception.
Todd Rokita (R-IN) is expected to take Price's place chairing the House Budget Committee.
