As of April 2016, Millennials have surpassed Baby Boomers as the nation’s largest living generation. While this may not have an immediately apparent impact on practices, it will not take long for Millennials to become a large percentage of a practice’s patients—making it essential that practices begin developing strategies to reach and engage with this portion of the population now.
A July AAOE webinar sponsored by Socius Marketing titled “Millennial Marketing: How to Reach and Engage With the Mobile Generation” addressed this hot topic in marketing. Presenter Chris Behan, President of Socius Marketing, provided attendees with a thorough explanation of what Millennials look for when searching for a product or service. Although these techniques are largely applicable to many types of organizations, Behan offered specific examples relating to orthopaedic practices.
Behan has more than 20 years of internet marketing experience and has managed online marketing campaigns that have produced hundreds or thousands of leads for the healthcare industry. At the beginning of his web marketing career, he optimized a vitamin/supplement site that experienced an increase in sales of more than 500 percent in the first year. He also runs one of the largest orthopaedic campaigns in the country.
Drawing from this wealth of experience, Behan stressed the importance of tailoring digital marketing efforts so they appeal to Millennials. He provided strategies for highlighting patient-valued benefits that speak to Millennials—such as convenience, accessibility, hours of operations, and services—and ways to incorporate them into your web design. Behan also explained ways to utilize promoted and paid social advertising to increase brand awareness and engage with Millennials.
The webinar offered attendees practical strategies and tips for reaching the Millennial audience, with advice and examples specifically for orthopaedic practices.
