Since the proposed MACRA rule containing MIPS was released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in April 2016, AAOE Government Affairs has remained on top of information relating to MIPS and has continued to communicate updates to AAOE members.
For a thorough explanation of everything you need to know about the proposed rule, read the “Merit-based Incentive Payment System Summary of Proposed Regulation” published by AAOE Government Affairs. The summary covers topics such as the components of MIPS and reimbursement under MIPS, as well as the MIPS performance categories.
The AAOE legislative and regulatory update newsletter, the OrthoActivist, is also an excellent resource for information on MIPS. Check out these helpful articles published in recent issues:

In this 2-part series, attendees will learn everything known so far about the proposed rule, including:
- What happens to PQRS, MU, and the Value-based Modifier.
- Who is required to participate and how will they report?
- The program timeline, and what all the new acronyms mean.
Attendees will also take away action steps so that your practice can make the most of its participation in this new program when the performance period begins in 2017.
