The Department of Justice (DOJ) is said to be readying lawsuits to prevent the mergers of Aetna-Humana and Anthem-Cigna, according to a report in Bloomberg.
DOJ is reportedly concerned that these deals will lead to anti-competitive behavior in the health insurance marketplace as the major insurers would go from five to three. Sources familiar with the issue have acknowledged that insurers have offered to sell assets to allay concerns from regulators but have said that this is unlikely to ease their concerns.
AAOE has been steadfastly opposed to these mergers since their announcement. You can read AAOE's comments to the Department of Justice's Antitrust Division here.
