Acting Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) told the Senate Finance Committee today that the agency is considering multiple ways to address concerns about physician readiness for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), according toPolitico. Those options could include an alternative start date, a shorter reporting period, etc.
CMS proposed to start MIPS reporting on January 1, 2017 which raised howls from provider groups which argued the likely November 1, 2016 release of the final rule would not give them enough time to prepare for the implementation.
AAOE's comments on the proposed rule called for any continuous 90-day reporting period in 2017 to allow providers the time to adjust to the new program and provide them with the greatest chance for success.
